Australia Crest

Bushranger who was born in Scotland in 1829 and arrived in Australia in November, 1834, aged 5.

Frank Gardiner

Gardiner was brought up in the bush and quickly learned to ride and shoot.

His life of crime began with horse stealing and cattle duffing and he soon turned to bushranging in 1861.

He formed a gang in 1862 with Ben Hall, John Gilbert and John Peisley. Gilbert and Peisley struck terror into the hearts of the people around Yass, Lambing Flat and Gundagai.

The gang stuck up a gold escort at Eugowra and stole gold and money to the value of 12,000, a small fortune in those days.

Gardiner absconded to Queensland but was soon caught by police and sentenced to 32 years jail. He was released after 8 years inside on the condition that he left the colony.
