Melbourne once had its own Opera House, now the Tivoli Theatre.

Melbourne was used to film the 1953 hit film On The Beach with the famous beach scene and actress Ava Gardner saying what an ideal place to film the end of the world.

Also, Prince Charles later described St Kilda beach as "like swimming in sewerage". Not exactly Prince Charming!

The river Yarra flows through Melbourne. Because of its muddiness people say 'it's too thick to drink and too thin to plough'.
