Alex Buzo

Playwright, born in Sydney in 1944.

Buzo was educated in Armidale, NSW, Switzerland, and the University of NSW.

Noted for his verbal cleverness and satirical wit, Buzo has written Rooted, The Front Room Boys, Coralie Lansdowne Says No and Makassar Reef. These plays take a satirical swipe at Australian society.

Books include Tautology, Real Men Don't Eat Quiche and A Dictionary Of The Almost Obvious where Buzo comes up with definitions or explanations for everything from 'dirge' to 'politics' eg. A Bus - a vehicle in Australia but a gap in New Zealand, Politics - the art of keeping parallel lines from meeting.
