Bryan Brown

Actor, born in Sydney on 23rd June, 1947.

Bryan trained as an actuary and worked as an insurance salesman before studying with the Genesian Theatre group for 5 years.

In 1964 he went to England, eventually winning minor roles at the Old Vic.

He then returned to Oz and joined the Queensland Theatre Company.

He first came under notice in Newsfront in 1978 with Peter Finch and has been in films such as Breaker Morant, Winter Of Our Dreams, Far East, The Thorn Birds and Taipan.

He won international attention for his performance in the television miniseries A Town Like Alice and this led to the British film Kim and then to Hollywood with Gorillas In The Mist in 1988 and Cocktail with Tom Cruise in 1989.

Bryan Brown is a larrikin, a sort of Errol Flynn and Chips Rafferty rolled into one.

Bryan is married to English actress Rachel Ward.
