Tim Burstall

Film director and producer born in England in 1929 and coming to Australia in 1937.

Burstall first worked in journalism, editing and public relations.

In 1959 he set up Eltham Films in association with Patrick Ryan. Eltham produced The Prize, Ned Kelly, Australia Felix and the doco Sculpture Australia.

In 1972 he formed Hexagon Productions in association with Roadshow, making most of his 70s films, including Alvin Purple and The Rollicking Adventures Of Eliza Fraser. Later films include Kangaroo and The Naked Country.

Burstall was a prominent force in the 60s and 70s revival of the Australian film industry.
