n 1917, the headache cure Aspro was named for its manufacturer NicholAS PROducts.
George Nicholas, the founder of the company, was born in 1884.
He developed Aspro tablets as an alternative to Asprin headache pills. The name of the product came from his company name NicholAS PROducts - G.R. Nicholas & Co. then Nicholas Pty. Ltd.
George died in 1960.
George's elder brother Alfred was born on 14th September, 1881. He started his working life as a grocer and then became an import merchant. In 1917 he joined his brother as business manager.
In later years he set up a research laboratory at his home at Burnham Beeches.
This lab. was used by the company to develop its products.
Alfred was a keen gardener and inported seeds and shrubs into Australia.
Alfred died on 26th February, 1937.
Aspro is now made by Roche.
