Dog on the Tuckerbox
Australia Crest

A nameless dog commemorated by Frank Rusconi's bronze monument on the Hume Highway near Gundagai, NSW. The monument, raised in 1932, was inspired by the ballad Nine Miles From Gundagai by Jack Moses.

It is rumoured the legend comes from a much older work, Bullocky Bill, originally published in the Gundagai Times in the 1880s and probably composed by a teamster. In fact the line supposedly reads "Then the dog s.at on the Tuckerbox five miles from Gundagai". The misdemeanor is not part of the bronze effigy of the offending pooch.
