In 1917 Edward Holden established a factory for the production of motor bodies.
Holden became part of the American company General Motors in 1931.
The first Holden car was designed by General Motors in Detroit, U.S.A.

On 29th November, 1948, the first mass-produced car in Australia , model 48-215 and later to be called the FX, came off the production line at the Holden factory at Fishermens Bend in Port Melbourne to be greeted by Prime Minister, Ben Chifley. Up to 1960 there were five models in the Holden F series - FX, FJ, FE, FC and FB.
