inger and actress born in Cambridge, England on 26th September, 1948 and moved to Oz when 5. Her father had been professor of German at King's College, Cambridge and had accepted an academic position in Melbourne.
She probably inherited her singing ability from her Welsh father who could have been a professional opera singer.
Her mother was the daughter of Max Born, the German Nobel Prize winning physicist who was a great friend of Albert Einstein.
At 16 she won first prize in a talent quest run by Johnny O'Keefe and this led to an amazing career highlighted by a string of hit records and Grammy awards.
In 1966 she met Bruce Welch of the Shadows at Bournemouth, later becoming engaged to him.
In the 70s she had many hits and many admirers. Besides Bruce Welch, guitarist with the Shadows, there was former manager Lee Kramer and supposedly 'platonically' to now Sir Cliff Richard, with whom she has recently appeared on the Australian leg of a tour.
In 1977, Olivia settled in Los Angeles and success came quickly with John Travolta in the 1978 film adaption of the hit stage show Grease and in 1980 with Xanadu.
Married in 1984 and divorced in 1996 from, eleven years her junior, husband Matt Lattanzi she has a 12 year daughter Chloe Rose to Lattanzi. Dancer/actor Lattanzi co-starred with her in Xanadu.
Country star Vince Gill is rumoured to be the new man in her life.
By 1992 success had left her and her Koala Blue retail chain went bust. Then her father died on the day she learned she had breast cancer.
"Spiritually, I was very open to everything," said Olivia, one of the growing number of women to survive breast cancer, as she had prayed with Buddhist friends after her surgery.
Olivia has had 5 no. 1 songs top of the USA charts - I Honestly Love You (1974), Have You Never Been Mellow (1975), You're The One That I Want (1978, with John Travolta), Magic (1980) and Physical (1981).
She has recorded with the Shadows, Cliff Richard, Andy Gibb, Barry Gibb, John Denver, John Travolta, Gene Kelly - quite a list!
Her new album 'Back With a Heart' was released in June 1998.
At time of writing Olivia is on tour with John Farnham and Anthony Warlow.
Olivia gives a lot of her time to environmental causes, even through her music, and still hosts her Wild Life series. She is about to enter into a voluntary conservation agreement with the National Parks and Wildlife Sevice to conserve 6 hectares of rainforest on her property in the north of NSW.
