The youngsters initially won a competition on SBS TV's Nomad programme when they sent in a demo tape containing the song entitled Tomorrow.
The group consists guitarist and main songwriter Daniel Johns, bassist Chris Joannou and drummer Ben Gillies. Now that they have sat their HSC in 1997, the now 19 year old lads can concentrate on cementing their careers with the new album Neon Ballroom and a national tour mid 1999.
Also playing on Neon Ballroom are David Helfgott of Shine fame on piano and Midnight Oil's Jim Moginie, gracing seven tracks on keyboards.
Johns wrote all the songs on the new album at his parents' home in Merewether when the other two took off on an extended holiday after the grind of the HSC.
Johns, a vegan, is also a champion of animal rights.
