John Feltham Archibald
Australia Crest

Founder of The Bulletin magazine and his estate founded in 1921 the Archibald Prize for portrait painting. Archibald was born in 1856 and was sometimes known as Jules François Archibald.

Archibald was a great friend of artist and cartoonist Norman Lindsay and his wife Rose.

Archibald encouraged his cartoonists to play up the image of the Yellow Peril when World War 1 broke out. They often drew Japanese faced monkeys and took a firm stand for a White Australia.

Archibald died in 1919.
