Publisher, born in Sydney on 3rd December, 1906, father of Kerry Packer and grandfather of James Packer.

Frank's father was Robert Clyde Packer who started Smith's Weekly in the 1920s.

Frank Packer controlled the Consolidated Press group and was co-founder of the Australian Women's Weekly magazine.

He controlled the licence of the channel 9 television station, which now has son Kerry at the helm, after a short spell under the wing of Alan Bond.

He was a keen racegoer and racehorse owner and the Packer Plate, run at Royal Randwick, was named for him.

Sir Frank was also a keen sailor and financed the America's Cup challenge of Gretel.

Sir Frank Packer died in 1974.
