Champion long distance runner who carried the Olympic Torch into the stadium at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne.

Ron ClarkeBetween 1963 - 68 he set 17 world records for distances from 2 to 12 miles.

Ron won bronze at the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome.

On 22nd February, 1964, Clarke shattered the world 3 mile (4.8km) indoor record with a time of 13 min 18.4 seconds at an athletics meet in New York.

Clarke's 33 year old 5000 metres record, set in Stockholm, was finally beaten on 25th February, 1999, by the Road Runner, Lee Troop. Beep Beep now ya b......!

Clarke lives on the Gold Coast.
