Early in his career he was dubbed 'The Golden Bearcub' due to his blond likeness to Jack Nicklaus. Now he is the Great White Shark, or was it fishfinger according to Jack Newton?

From 1980 - 1996 Norman has won 5 Australian Open titles, with 5 gold jackets, and the British Open twice, in 1986 at Turnberry, Scotland and in 1993 at Royal St. Georges.

Besides his 2 British Opens, Greg has been runner up in 8 other Majors, losing 5 of those in play-offs, two of them with amazing bad luck, or should we say amazing good luck of his opponents. His worst loss was when he led Nick Faldo by 6 strokes going into the last round of the 1996 US Masters at Augusta National and ended up losing by 4 strokes. Greg bounced back of course, being the champion he is.

He was ranked no. 1 golfer in the world for the most part of many years, before relinquishing that honour after the arrival of Tiger Woods and having long overdue surgery on his shoulder, which kept him from playing for many months.

He has won many honours and awards over the years including the Vardon Trophy in 1989, 1990 and 1994. In 1995 he was PGA Player of the Year and PGA Tour Player of the Year as well as winning the Arnold Palmer Award for Leading Money Winner and the Byron Nelson Trophy for the Lowest Scoring Average. 1995, what a year for Greg Norman, and some people still knock him!

In November '98 he returned to competition and paired with Steve Elkington, won his own tournament.

In December '98 he was a member of the International team which beat the USA team in the Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne, in front of ex-Mr. President George Bush.

The day after this victory he was awarded a doctorate by Griffith University for his contribution to business.

Greg is sponsored by General Motors, Holden and Qantas in Australia and Chevrolet and Cobra Golf in USA. The Greg Norman Collection clothing apparel and fashion accessories is a division of Reebok.

Greg is now the biggest earning sportsperson in Australia. He has also been the number one golfer in the world for two extended stretches.

Greg has a passion for fast cars, jet planes, hunting, boats, scuba-diving and big-game fishing. With his golf course design business, salad dressings, sports clothing etc. etc. it is a wonder he has time left to play golf.

Greg and his family, wife Laura and kids Morgan-Leigh and Gregory Junior, live in a private compound at Hobe Sound in Florida, nearby to Steve Elkington, and this is where President Clinton did his knee in whilst staying overnight, reportedly sans Monica.

In 1999 Greg and Laura had their wedding rings blessed at the same church in Washington where they were married 17 years ago.

Greg is managed by Bart Collins.

Many golfers try to emulate Greg Norman using the best equipment, made from the best technology, just as Dinkum Aussies will use Lucent Technologies www.lucent.com.au in its ISP operation.
