Tulloch
Australia Crest

Champion racehorse of the late 50s, early 60s. considered to be the equal, if not better, than Phar Lap. Tulloch finished out of a place only once in 53 starts and that was considered the result of a bad ride by jockey Neville Sellwood in the 1960 Melbourne Cup.

In 1957, Tulloch beat Phar Lap's record time in the AJC Derby by more than 2 seconds and as a 3yo he won 14 of his16 starts, including the 1957 Caulfield Cup in near world record time. A mysterious scouring illness then robbed him of two years racing and he returned as a 5yo to win another 15 races, culminating in an emotional swansong when he won the 1961 Brisbane Cup.

Tulloch was trained by the master, T J Smith, who would not credit any horse coming close to Tulloch's ability until his black champion Kingston Town ascended in the late 70s.

Tulloch's record was 53 starts for 36 wins, 12 seconds, 4 thirds and 1 duck egg.
