Dally Messenger
Australia Crest

With a name like a newspaper or telegram boy, Herbert Henry Messenger could certainly deliver the goods.

Messenger switching codes helped establish rugby leage as a game.

Dally was captain of the first Rugby League Kangaroos team to play overseas in 1908-1909.

Messenger was also the first Australian to play the game professionally overseas, touring with the New Zealand All Golds in 1907-1908. He scored 146 points on that tour and arrived home some 200 richer.

The 'Dally M' medal awards are named for him.
