Andrew 'Boy' Charlton
Australia Crest

Olympic swimming champion in the 1920s.

Charlton won Olympic gold in the 1500 metres in Paris in 1924 and that same year swam against the Swedish Sturgeon, Arne Borg, in a series of races which captured the imagination of the Australian sporting spectator.

Thousands of people edged the pool in Sydney's Domain, now bearing Charlton's name, to watch him thrash the Swede. They say the crowd could be heard in Pitt Street.
