Swimming champion, born May 9th, 1980 and lives on the Gold Coast in Queensland.

Grant is 197 cm tall and weighs in around 88 kg.

Currently ranked no. 1 in the world, Grant's best time over the 1,500 metres is 14:51.70.

Grant is coached by Denis Cotrell.

Hackett won the world 1500m freestyle event in Perth in January, 1998. He also won gold in the 1500m freestyle of the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in September, 1998.

Grant swims from 200 metres through to the 1,500 metres and this blend of speed and endurance allows him to lift the tempo of a race when he sees fit to.

On March 23rd, 1999, Grant beat swimming's oldest standing world record set in 1989 by Italy's Giorgio Lamberti whn he swam in the first leg of the 4x200m relay at Brisbane's Sleeman Sports Centre. The previous day he just missed out by 3 tenths of a second when he beat Ian Thorpe in the 200m freestyle but this time he bettered the Italian's 1.46.69 by 2 hundredths of a second in 1.46.67.

Grant's sponsors are Qantas, Westpac, HSV, Holden and Uncle Tobys.

His estimated earnings are $500,000 pa plus incentives.
