Lleyton Hewitt
Australia Crest

18 year old top 50 in the world ranked tennis player from Adelaide. His father must either be a stutterer or Welsh.

Lleyton is growing a ponytail to emulate his Davis Cup teammate and role model Pat Rafter. The ponytail is difficult to see at present because of his baseball cap - if only some kid would be original and wear a baseball cap as it was meant to be worn.

Besides the attempt at humour, LLeyton is potentially the biggest thing happening in world tennis at present. In Harare at Easter '99 for the Davis Cup show down with Zimbabwe, John Newcombe said "The way he's going, he could be top 20 by the end of the year - or close to it."

Lleyton won the Australian hardcourt title in 98 and almost pulled it off again in his hometown of Adelaide in January,1999, finishing beaten finalist to Thomas Enqvist.

In March, '99, he lost a final in Scottsdale to up-and-coming American Michael Gambill.

He has beaten Pat Rafter twice and has also claimed the scalps of Mark Woodforde of the Woodies and Frenchman Cedric Pioline.

Lleyton is coached by former Australian tour player Darren Cahill.
